Loba Pastry + Coffee

Kouign-amann, we didn’t know how to pronounce it either until we started going here (it’s “queen uh-mahn” by the way). A lovely lo-fi (seriously, they prohibit laptops) coffee shop and bakery where you can’t go wrong with any of their baked goods or coffee drinks. Grab a hot lot (hot latte), an emmie, and a banana muffin before your stroll around Lakeview.

Nine Bar

The place where it all began. The bar of that fateful day. A speakeasy-esque cocktail bar nestled behind a Chinese takeout storefront in Chinatown a short walk from the L stop. Can’t go wrong with any drink on the menu. Ask Paul if he saved the receipt from the night he and Danielle went for the first time.

Bavette's Bar & Boeuf

Chicago and steakhouse go together like peanut butter and jelly, mustard and a hot dog, or Danielle and Paul. Arguably THE BEST steakhouse you can go to in Chicago, reservations can be tough but nothing beats snagging a walk-in spot at the bar. Start with a dirty martini and shrimp cocktail then finish with a bone-in ribeye and all the fixin’s to say goodbye to any sort of productivity for the rest of the day and possibly the best night’s sleep of the year.

Drip Collective

Coffee? Check. Pop-up DJ spots? Check. Build your own floral arrangement? Check. Projector showing anything from Akira to Happy Feet? Check. This coffee shop doubles as a venue for a variety of Chicago hobbies, pop-ups, and chef guest spots. If they have a latte with banana options, try it immediately.

John's Food and Wine

Danielle’s note to Paul for this description includes, “basically put this one the map,” and Paul can’t agree more. Described as “seasonal, modern American” cuisine, John’s Food and Wine’s regularly changing menu cooks up some of the best and most approachable entrees this side of the Mississippi. Along with their overall culinary capabilities they serve arguably the best French fries that Danielle and Paul have ever had in their lives. Steak frites or just the frites (if they got ‘em) are absolutely required should you visit.

FAQ

What should I wear? Is there a dress code?

The dress code for our wedding is cocktail attire. Think cocktail dresses or a suit and tie or a sports coat.

Where are the ceremony and the reception taking place?

The ceremony and reception are both taking place at the same location - Elske.

Please make sure to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start time.

Are kids welcome?

While we love your little ones, our wedding will be an adults-only event so that everyone can relax and enjoy the evening. We appreciate you making arrangements ahead of time and leaving the kids at home so you can celebrate with us.

Can I bring a plus one?

Unfortunately, we have a strict guest list due to the venue size. Our celebration is strictly RSVP only. We will only be able to accommodate those listed on your wedding invitation.

Will the ceremony and reception be indoors or outdoors?

The ceremony will be taking place in an outdoor courtyard; we recommend flat-soled shoes, wedges, or block heels. The reception will be held both indoors and outdoors.

What happens after the ceremony?

After the ceremony, the wedding party will be taking pictures nearby for around an hour. Guests can head straight upstairs, where we will be serving finger foods and beverages during a cocktail hour.

Where should I stay?

While we do not have a hotel block or preferred hotel, we listed two amazing hotels: The Emily Hotel and The Hoxton. Of the two, The Hoxton offers a discount code for your stay. Please use this code when booking your hotel. If you do not choose one of the hotels listed, there are plenty in the area either within walking distance or a short uber ride away! For a budget-friendly option, the Crowne Plaza Chicago West Loop is about 1.5 miles from the venue.

Should I bring a gift to your wedding?

Since you’re traveling for our wedding, making the trip is a gift in itself — physical gifts are absolutely not necessary! If you do choose to browse our wedding registry, however, any items on the list can be shipped directly to our home address.
